MSDYN365BC Spring Release - No Captions on Page?

Hi Readers,

Today I was stumped with an issue while doing development for a customer in CAL Development Environment.

While creating a new page global variable and then add a variable in the page but when I tried to run that page there were no captions in the fields that added as a global variable.

It took me a while to figure out the solution of the same so I thought it would be great to share about the issue and solution.

I am using Business Central Spring Release for North America.

What is the Problem / Issue?

For the Demo, I am creating a simple page with two fields as shown below.

Then I added a global variables ABC of type Text and added that in Page with caption - "My Test Field"

When I execute/run that page I don't see caption in the field added.

The reason behind Problem?

Cause of the issue - From Business Central Spring Release (14.x) I don't know why but default caption ML is ENC instead of ENU.

How to Resolve this problem?

Till Microsoft fix the issue for the on-prem C/AL version, make sure that correct Caption ML is set for all fields that you add as shown below.

Run the page to test the results.

To my surprise, ENC is the default caption ML added in Table field but somehow Platform understands that and shown caption on the page.

Hope you find the information useful.

BC 21 and Higher - PowerShell Cmdlet (Replacement of Business Central Administration).

Hi Readers, As discussed in last article about deprecating of Business Central Administration, there are few common actions that we use in administration till Business Central 20. For our on-prem customers, we will still require doing activities. As Microsoft suggest we need to start using PowerShell cmdlet.    Let's see how to do those via PowerShell, or Administration Shell. I will be keep adding commands as you comment to this article.

MSDYN365BC - Data Upgrade To Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on premises.

Hi Readers, We have already talked about the number of steps for upgrading to Business Central on Premises from different NAV versions. After that article, I received multiple requests for an article which list down steps for Data Migration. In this article, we will discuss steps of data migration to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem) from NAV 2017. For this article, I am considering a Cronus Demo Database without any customization. For an actual upgrade project, we will have to complete object merge using compare and Merge process. After the Merge Process, the next step is data migration. Let's discuss those steps. Direct Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (on-Prem) is from following versions - 1. NAV 2015. 2. NAV 2016. 3. NAV 2017. 4. NAV 2018.
