MSDYN365BC 2019 Wave 2 - Journal Show Fewer or Show More Columns?

Hi Readers,

This is a quick blog about a small change that is introduced in Business Central 14 and Higher.

In Few Business Central 14 and Higher, few pages have the option to Show Fewer Columns and Show More Columns. There is a lot of confusion that we hear from customers about these pages.

So this article talks about where this feature is.

In Business Central 14 or higher open following pages -

  1. General Journal.
  2. Sales Journal &
  3. Purchase Journal.

If we open the General Journal Page and try to create a record. On this page by default currently, you can only enter transactions related to G/L Account.

You cannot enter records for other Account Types like - Customers, Vendors, Bank Account, Fixed Asset, IC Partner and Employee.

If you want the page to look like before Dynamics NAV or Business central 13 then choose Show More Columns from Top Ribbon as shown below.

How Microsoft designed it?

Whenever a user opens these 3 pages to the first time the pages are set to Simple Mode that means the user will Show More Columns option in the ribbon.

But if the user selects Show More Columns that info is stored in the database for that user and after that point, if the user opens the same page he/she will get the classic view.

The system read the info and based on Saved Values select the View for user either classic or Simple Mode.

The details are stored in Table 1182 - Journal User Preferences.

Hope this article helps to Understand how to use Journal Pages in Business Central 14 and Higher.
